Burnt wood clear-cut in Provence, France

Calot Jean Paul, specialised society in logging, recently obtained a clearcutting contract located in VAR department, a few kilometers from Seillons-Source-d’Argens in Southeastern France.

Jean-Paul Calot is managing the society located at CHATEL SUR MOSELLE which is active since 15 years. The site is particularly a burnt wood sector since 2017 in consequences of an arson attack. Green oaks trees, dried by the flames, has very tight fiber and needs to be clear cut on an area of 40 hectares. The process consists of cutting and skidding on behalf of The National Forestry Office (Office national des Forêts – ONF) for then being transformed into chips that will be delivered to the Gardanne Biomass Power Station.

Considering the amount of trees to cut down as well as the diameter from 10 to 30 centimeters, Jean-Paul Calot opted for a 3018L felling head mounted on a 20 tons Liebherr R920 Compact excavator. Previously, M. Calot was using tree shears. His current production easily doubled with Gilbert’s 3018 felling head.
